Meet Olivia--she's a half-illithid human, who works in a brothel called "Our Little Secret" run by [link] .

Those of you familiar with the illithid, or "Mindflayer," physiology and reproductive system would be quick to shout out in protest at the impossibility of a half-human illithid. For though the illithid young that enter a humanoid's brain via the ear canal often transforms its host into a half-illithid, the introduction of a larva into a human brain, is supposed to result in a full-fledged illithid.

But what happens if an illithid didn't go through the proper process for illithid reproduction? What if he found another method--the same sort that dragons use to create half-dragon humans?

A radical illithid known as Gayan pioneered this "experiment" in eugenics, only to be excoriated by his fellow mindflayers. The servants of the Lords of Madness saw this child as an adomination among abominations--a useless waste of genetic material and potential. Gayan was stripped of his powers and most of his memories, but left with the knowledge that he once knew so much more. The PCs found Gayan on a streetcorner in the Depths of Sharn, curled up and dressed in rags, with his facial tentacles severed.

The PC's unraveling of the mystery of Olivia's origins was essential to the Eugenic Nightmare Eberron campaign I was running this past spring semester.
